Web-based email is great because you can check it from any computer, but there's one little catch: it's inherently limited by your internet connection. From public WiFi to smartphones equipped with 3G, from mobile broadband cards to fledgling in-flight wireless on airplanes, Internet access is becoming more and more ubiquitous -- but there are still times when you can't access your webmail because of an unreliable or unavailable connection.
Today we're starting to roll out an experimental feature in Gmail Labs that should help fill in those gaps: offline Gmail. So even if you're offline, you can open your web browser, go to gmail.com, and get to your mail just like you're used to.
Once you turn on this feature, Gmail uses Gears to download a local cache of your mail. As long as you're connected to the network, that cache is synchronized with Gmail's servers. When you lose your connection, Gmail automatically switches to offline mode, and uses the data stored on your computer's hard drive instead of the information sent across the network. You can read messages, star and label them, and do all of the things you're used to doing while reading your webmail online. Any messages you send while offline will be placed in your outbox and automatically sent the next time Gmail detects a connection. And if you're on an unreliable or slow connection (like when you're "borrowing" your neighbor's wireless), you can choose to use "flaky connection mode," which is somewhere in between: it uses the local cache as if you were disconnected, but still synchronizes your mail with the server in the background. Our goal is to provide nearly the same browser-based Gmail experience whether you're using the data cached on your computer or talking directly to the server.
Offline Gmail is still an early experimental feature, so don't be surprised if you run into some kinks that haven't been completely ironed out yet. We've been using offline Gmail internally at Google for quite a while (I've read thousands of messages and answered hundreds en route to visit my son and my daughter). And it's saved me more than once when my home network connection ran into issues (we have squirrels at home that love to chew through outside cable wires). Now we're ready to have a larger set of people try it out, so we're making it available in Gmail Labs for those of you who want to test out Gmail's latest and greatest and send us your feedback.

- Click Settings and click the Labs tab.
- Select Enable next to Offline Gmail.
- Click Save Changes.
- After your browser reloads, you'll see a new "Offline0.1" link in the upper righthand corner of your account, next to your username. Click this link to start the offline set up process and download Gears if you don't already have it.
Just follow these steps to set up your offline access:
- Enable Offline from your Labs page.
- From your inbox, click the Offline link.
- You'll see a prompt from Gears to start downloading your messages onto your computer. If you don't have Gears installed, Gmail will help you install it (you can also download it here). You may need to restart your browser after installing Gears. If you already have Gears installed (for example, to use Google Docs offline), you won't need to install it again, but you'll be prompted to allow permission for Gmail to access Gears. Click the allow link.
- Your messages will be downloaded to your computer. Depending on the size of your account, this may take a while the first time, but you can check on your progress in the status box near the Settings link.
You can use Gmail normally while syncing. You don't have to wait for synchronization to finish before disconnecting from the internet. If you'd like, you can click the pause sync button to temporarily stop the sync process (it'll resume automatically if it's been paused for an hour). When you disconnect from the internet, the messages you've synchronized will be available immediately. Gmail will automatically continue syncing in the background whenever you reconnect to the internet.
Note: Offline Gmail works only on Microsoft Internet Explorer versions 7.0+, Mozilla Firefox versions 2.0+, Google Chrome, and Safari 3+. If you're using Google Chrome, you don't need to download or install Google Gears, as it's already installed on your browser.
Also note: Offline Gmail installs and synchronizes on a per account, per browser, per machine basis. When you use a different browser, you'll still see the Offline link in your account, but your messages won't be synchronized unless you install it again on this browser.

Ada seorang pemuda yang lama belajardi luar negara kembali ke tanahair dengan angkuh dan sombong. Di dalambenak kepalanya telah lama tersimpan 3 pertanyaan yang dianggapnyatiada siapa yang boleh menjawab. Satu hari beliau bertemu seorang Imamtua di kampungnya.
Pemuda: Pak Imam apakah boleh menjawab pertanyaan-pertanyaan saya?
Pak Imam: Saya hamba Allah dan dengan izin-Nya saya akan menjawab pertanyaan kamu!
Pemuda: Pak Imam yakin? Profesor dan banyak orang pintar yang saya tanya tidak mampu menjawab pertanyaan saya.
Pak Imam: Saya akan mencuba sejauh kemampuan saya, insya'Allah.
Pemuda: Saya ada 3 pertanyaan,
1. Kalau benar Tuhan itu ada, tunjukan kewujudan Tuhan kepada saya?
2. Apakah yang dinamakan TAKDIR?
3.Kalau syaitan diciptakan dari api, kenapa mereka dimasukkan ke nerakayang dibuat dari api, tentu tidak menyakitkan buat syaitan, sebabmereka memiliki unsur yang sama. Apakah Tuhan tidak pernah berfikirsejauh itu?
Dengan sepontan Pak Imam tersebut menampar pipi si Pemuda itu dengan amat kuat.
Pemuda (sambil menahan sakit): Kenapa Pak Imam marah kepada saya?
Pak Imam: Saya tidak marah...Tamparan itu adalah jawapan saya untuk 3 pertanyaan yang awak tanyakan kepada saya.
Pemuda: Saya amat tidak faham...??
Pak Imam: Bagaimana rasanya tamparan saya?
Pemuda: Tentu saja saya merasakan sakit dan pedih...!!
Pak Imam: Jadi awak percaya bahwa sakit itu ada?
Pemuda: Ya....!
Pak Imam: Tunjukan pada saya wujudnya sakit itu atau macam mana rupanya?
Pemuda: Tak boleh Pak Imam...!!!
PakImam: Itulah jawapan kepada pertanyaan pertama awak, kita semuamerasakan kewujudan Tuhan itu tanpa mampu melihat kewujudanNya.
Pak Imam: Adakah malam tadi awak bermimpi atau telah tahu saya akan menampar awak?
Pemuda: Tidak....!!?
Pak Imam: Apakah awak pernah terfikir akan menerima sebuah tamparan dari saya hari ini?
Pemuda: Tidak....!!!?
Pak Imam: Itulah yang dinamakan TAKDIR!
Pak Imam: Terbuat dari apakah tangan yang saya gunakan untuk menampar awak ini?
Pemuda: Kulit dan daging...!!!
Pak Imam: Terbuat dari apakah pipi awak itu...?
Pemuda: Kulit dan daging....!!!??
Pak Imam: Bagaimana rasanya tamparan saya?
Pemuda: Sakit dan pedih....!!!?
PakImam: Itulah...! Walaupun Syaitan terbuat dari api dan Neraka terbuatdari api, namun jika Tuhan berkehendak, maka Neraka akan jadilah iatempat yang menyakitkan untuk syaitan....walaupun sama unsurasalnya...!!
